The City of Oakland’s services for parks , trees , street and traffic maintenance are significantly decreased due to staffing and budget reductions effective July 1, 2009. Many parks will not receive regular maintenance. Tree services are limited to the removal of hazardous tree conditions. Street and traffic maintenance, including traffic and street signage, crosswalk markings and curb markings will be further delayed. On July 10, 2007, the Oakland City Council adopted an Environmentally Preferable Purchasing (EPP) Policy that requires City purchasers to consider environmental attributes along with traditional purchasing factors such as performance, safety, price and local availability, when making purchasing decisions.
